Watsonville Police Respond to Shooting on Green Valley Road

WATSONVILLE, Calif. -

Police responded to reports of a shooting on Green Valley Road and Carey Avenue Tuesday afternoon.

Police were able to arrest the two teen's involved and after they were followed by a witness.

Here is what police said happened:

On 01-07-14 at approximately 1301 Hrs, Watsonville Police were dispatched to the area of S Green Valley Rd at Carey Ave for a shooting that had just occurred. While officers were enroute, one of the witnesses followed 3 suspects as they fled the scene of the shooting and updated police as to their location. With the help of the information provided by the witness, the initial officers in the area were able to locate the 3 suspects in the area of McDonald's on Freedom Blvd. The three 15 year old Hipanic Male juveniles were all detained without incident. A short while later, the victim, a 17 year old Hispanic male was located.

The investigation revealed that the three 15 year old suspects were in the area of S Green Valley Rd at Carey Ave. Two were riding bicycles the third was on a scooter. They came across the victim in that area and immediately became engaged in a verbal altercation. One of the suspects then pulled out a small handgun and shot toward the victim at close range. The bullet missed the suspect but the suspects fled the scene toward Freedom Blvd and the victim ran in the opposite direction. The victim was not injured in the altercation and the suspects were all positively identified by the witness and arrested. This incident is being investigated as gang motivated.
