Supreme Court judge to attend federal conference in Monterey
U.S. Supreme Court Judge Anthony Kennedy is among the judicial officials scheduled to attend a national conference being held in Monterey next month.
The Hyatt Regency in Monterey will host the 2014 Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference from July 14-17.
The conference will bring together justices, lawyers and court staff from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit as well as the federal district and bankruptcy courts in nine western states. Attendance is by invitation.
This year's theme is "Access to Justice," in recognition of the 50th anniversary of Gideon v. Wainwright, the Supreme Court decision mandating that state courts must provide a lawyer to criminal defendants who cannot afford one on their own.
