Seaside man pleads no contest to attempted rape, burglary
A 31-year-old Seaside man has pleaded no contest to felony charges of rape, first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary and attempted second-degree burglary stemming from an incident in January.
According to Monterey County prosecutors, on Jan. 12, Jose Mauricio Dominguez attempted to break into the Cypress Massage Parlor on Casanova Street in Monterey. He did not succeed, and crossed the street to the Sundance Spa, which he successfully broke into. He attempted to rape the victim while she was resting in her room, prosecutors said.
She was able to distract Dominguez and escape through a side door, running naked down the street to call for help.
Dominguez fled to the nearby Peninsula Pool Services where he broke in, used the location as a hide out, and stole items from the business.
Dominguez will be sentenced to eight years in state prison on May 7. The charges of first-degree burglary and attempted rape are considered felony strikes under the state's Three Strikes Law.
