Police Said Man Intentionally Drove Into Santa Cruz Theater

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -

Police said a man drove his car into the Rio Theater and then stabbed himself to death Wednesday night.

The theater was closed at the time around 10:45 p.m. said police. The victim, whose identity has not been released, crashed his car through the front kiosk and glass front entrance of the theater.

According to witnesses, the driver made no attempt to slow down or stop. He was seen driving in the intersection of Seabright Avenue and Soquel Avenue when he steered directly into the theater, said police.

Police said just before the crash, they received reports of the same vehicle driving  erratically on southbound Highway 1 and Morrissey Boulevard.

After he crashed, the driver reportedly got out of the car and began stabbing himself with shards of glass.

Several people tried to help, said police, but the driver was refusing help.

Eventually the driver was loaded into an ambulance, but he died at the hospital, said police.
