CARMEL, Calif. -

Carmel police and the Monterey County Sheriff's Office are investigating a man arrested inside his own residence Tuesday afternoon who reportedly had stolen property.

The burglary suspect, identified as 27-year-old Ryan Scully, was arrested shortly after 2 p.m. at his residence on the 3000 block of Fisher Place, in Carmel.

Deputies say they were dispatched to a possible prowler call in the area. A passerby reported a man was seen jumping a rear fence and entering the rear area of a home on Fisher Place. Sheriff's deputies, along with Carmel police and a CHP unit, spotted a man matching the description of the possible prowler inside the residence.

Upon making contact with the man, deputies discovered several stolen items inside the home, along with illegal narcotics and narcotic paraphernalia.

After identifying Scully, deputies say it was learned he lived at the residence. Scully was arrested for possession of stolen property and illegal narcotic substances.

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office and the Carmel Police Department had been actively investigating several burglaries in the area and will be working with victims to identify the recovered property.

Scully works in the animal care industry, according to deputies.
