Jasmine Viel currently anchors the award-winning evening newscasts on KION-TV and the CW with Spencer Washburn.
Viel graduated from San Diego State University magna cum laude in the journalism program. She immediately snatched up a job reporting in Yuma, Arizona at KSWT-TV, the CBS affiliate. From reporting on President George W. Bush’s visit to the border to covering one of the most horrific child murder cases, Jasmine earned several Associated Press awards. She moved up to anchoring the evening newscasts for the Desert Southwest. She finally made the move back into her home state in 2007, getting a reporting job at KION-TV.
It didn’t take long to make the move into the evenings, helping earn a Walter Cronkite award for political coverage, a regional Edward R. Murrow award for continuing coverage and two-time Emmy-Award winner for Best Newscast, Northern California (small market, 2011-2012).
Besides living the news everyday, Jasmine loves to travel, read and be as active as possible!
